Canada’s Identity Preserved Soybean Program Achieves Technical Equivalency to the Global Food Safety Initiative
September 30th, 2022, Ottawa ON – The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has acknowledged the technical equivalence of the Canadian Identity Preserved Recognition System (CIRPS) + Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program against GFSI Technical Equivalence Requirements version 2020.
Developed by the Canadian Grain Commission and soybean industry, CIPRS + HAACP is the world’s most fully integrated quality assurance program. Through a list of standards provided by Soy Canada, the program certifies export companies have grain safety quality management systems in place, incorporate identity preserved processes and mitigate potential grain safety risks.
“Being recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative is the latest sign of our Canadian industry’s ability to deliver exceptional quality control and food safety to our customers,” says Brian Innes, Executive Director, Soy Canada. “Our success is built on partnership, and we’ll continue to work closely with the Canadian Grain Commission on the program so our customers continue to trust our quality sustainable product.”
The GFSI is a business-driven initiative for the development of food safety management systems to ensure food facilities are processing safe food for consumers. Technical equivalency is a category of the GFSI benchmarking process dedicated to government-owned standards. It acknowledges the equivalence of the standards content to the relevant scopes of the GFSI benchmarking requirements.
